Most of the links on this page end up finding their way to free tutorials (some video tutorials). Some got to companies that offer some free and others for a fee. Many require some (free) software. Here are some links on where to get them: Quicktime, VLC, Flash, or Stuffit Expander.


There us another great source for turtorials: Lynda.com. You pay a monthly subscription and have 24/7 access to their training videos online. They also have apps for the iPhone and iPad. Not all subjects are covered. Their focus is less on basic and more on advanced.

 

   Although AppleWorks has been discontinued and replaced, in part with the iWork applications, AppleWorks has many continuing users and will still run in OS X Snow Leopard (with Rosetta installed).

    Office 2004 will not run in Lion and has the disadvantage of not reading the newer Office formats (like docx) natively.

Office 2011		  
Microsoft Office 2008
Office 2008 will run in Lion and for most users is as functional as Office 2011. If you use Entourage, you want to be running Office 2008. However, Entourage is showing its age and you would be wise to consider switching to Apple's Mail program or Office 2011's Outlook.
