Most of the links on this page end up finding their way to free tutorials (some video tutorials). Some got to companies that offer some free and others for a fee. Many require some (free) software. Here are some links on where to get them: Quicktime, VLC, Flash, or Stuffit Expander.

There us another great source for turtorials: Lynda.com. You pay a monthly subscription and have 24/7 access to their training videos online. They also have apps for the iPhone and iPad. Not all subjects are covered. Their focus is less on basic and more on advanced.

iLife is a suite of software applications developed by Apple for organizing, editing, and publishing photos, movies, and music. The iLife '11 suite comprises five applications: iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, GarageBand, and iWeb (part of MobileMe, so essentially defunct). iDVD was not updated – this is still the iLife '09 version. Requires an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard or later. iLife comes included on new computers and the invidivual app are available for purchase through the Mac App Store (which you will find in your Snow Leopard Applications folder).

iPhoto makes importing, organizing, editing and sharing your digital photos as much fun as taking them. Tutorial (from Apple).

GarageBand You don’t have to be a musician to make music with GarageBand. GarageBand includes short pieces of pre-recorded music called loops. You can combine, arrange, and extend loops to make your own song. I use GarageBand to convert cassette tapes to digital iTunes music, to make live recordings, and to make ringtones for my iPhone. GarageBand can record from a MacBook (or even an iBook) without a microphone.

iDVD With iDVD you can organize your movies, create photo slideshows, and build your own DVD menus—even add your Keynote presentations to a DVD.
